Step: Export

How to Export XML and Building Instructions

Get from a Studio model to a parts list file and a build guide you can hand to buyers or upload here.

1
Export a BrickLink XML parts list
Open your model in BrickLink Studio and use its export options to save a BrickLink XML (or compatible) parts list. Menus move around between versions, so if you’re stuck, check BrickLink’s current Studio help from their site. What you want in the end is XML that lists part, color, and quantity so people can order bricks and you can attach it to a listing.
2
Generate building instructions
Studio’s instruction mode is there for step-by-step guides. Keep camera angles readable, don’t cram too much into one step, and show what’s new each time. Export to PDF when your setup allows. Clear steps mean fewer confused messages and fewer refund headaches.
3
What OpenStuds accepts for uploads
When you upload a MOC on OpenStuds, we ask for instructions as PDF or .io (Studio) and the parts list as XML. Heads up: .io files aren’t watermarked the same way some PDFs are, so pick the format that matches how you protect your files.
4
Got XML? Order parts on BrickLink
XML is also how you buy bricks for yourself. Our How To Use XML page walks through BrickLink Wanted Lists (handy for test builds and for explaining the same path to customers).
