The U-505 is a German submarine from World War II, notable for being the only Type IXC U-boat captured by the Allies. Commissioned on August 26, 1941, it conducted twelve patrols before being captured by the U.S. Navy on June 4, 1944, off the coast of West Africa. The capture was significant for providing valuable intelligence and insight into German naval operations. Today, the U-505 is preserved and on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, serving as a powerful historical artifact and a tribute to the bravery and ingenuity of those involved in its capture.
